By now you should have received the ballot paper to elect two Vice Presidents and one Secretary General of ISAE for a 3-year term (1st April 2012-31st March 2015). The contestants are requested to provide their brief resume to be uploaded on the ISAE website for the information of members. For ISAE to continue to grow and to do good job of serving the profession and serving its members you should elect persons who are dedicated and can spare time and resources to participate in various activities of the Society. Preparations for the Annual Convention and International Symposium on Grain Storage at Pantnagar during 27-29 February 2012 are progressing satisfactorily. The Technical Directors have received about 550 abstracts compared to about 400 last year. We definitely look forward to a larger gathering at Pantnagar compared to about 410 registered participants at Nagpur. We have sent invitations to the Chief Secretaries / Agricultural Production Commissioners of all the states of the country to nominate agricultural engineers working in the field in the respective states to participate in the convention and take advantage of latest developments in different areas of Agricultural Engineering. The ISAE members working in the field in respective states are requested to pursue this matter in their Departments. If any further letter or help is needed from HQ, please inform us. The elections in Uttarakhand will be held on 30th January 2012 and in constituencies in Uttar Pradesh near Pantnagar on 4th February 2012. Therefore elections should not affect our convention.
Year 2011 proved to be quite active and productive for ISAE. A number of new Chapters were established with a large number of engineers joining as life members. Our goal is to have an ISAE Chapter in every State Capital. A good number of agricultural engineers, especially from North America also joined as life members. A number of chapters organized national seminars on very current and relevant topics. ISAE has become National member of the International Commission of Agricultural Engineering (www.cigr.org) and has also taken the membership of the Engineering Council of India (www.eci.org). In the recently concluded ECI National workshop on 28th November 2011, Dr V M Mayande made a presentation representing ISAE, which was highly appreciated.
One of the most important factors to encourage people to continue to work hard with devotion and sincerity is to recognize their good work. After thorough review ISAE revamped its awards. In addition to a main committee on ISAE awards ISAE also appointed a number of committees for the selection of best candidates for other awards like fellows, the best chapter, the best paper published in JAE, etc. This process was made very transparent and without exception recommendations of all these committees were accepted in total. We are getting mails appreciating distribution of awardees all over the country, different disciplines and amongst the different stakeholders (Academia, field and industry). The list of awardees for the year 2011 is given in this E-Newsletter. I congratulate all the awardees and request them to attend the Convention at Pantnagar to receive their award in person. I also congratulate our agricultural engineer colleagues who have been elected as NAAS Fellow. A number of Agricultural Engineering Journals, which were excluded from NAAS list of Journal Ratings, were recently reviewed and will be included in the NAAS list. These are: Agricultural Mechanization in Asia, Africa and Latin America (AMA) published by Farm Machinery Industrial Corporation and Shin.Norinsha Co. Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan); International Agricultural Engineering Journal published by Asian Association for Agricultural Engineering (AAAE, Beijing, China); Journal of Institution of Engineers India (Agricultural Engineering) published by Institution of Engineers (Kolkata, India) and Agricultural Engineering Today (AET) of ISAE.
We are expecting a good number of overseas participants at Pantnagar including Sonia Jacobsen, President of ASABE and a team from University of Illinois led by K C Ting, Head, Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department. Please join your fellow agricultural engineers at Pantnagar and make it the best convention with largest attendance so far.
I wish you all a PROFESSIONALLY ACTIVE, PRODUCTIVE and A VERY HAPPY 2012,
